WHO WE ARE?

The Disabled Drivers’ Association (NI) is a self help organisation run FOR disabled people BY disabled people. The ‘association’ concerns itself with the needs of disabled people primarily by encouraging greater independence through enhanced mobility.

Mobility touches every aspect of disabled peoples lives, whether they are drivers or passengers, using cars, wheelchairs, public transport or simply walking.

From its formation as a group of invalid tricycle users in 1947, the Disabled Drivers’ Association has given a clear lead in the fight to improve mobility, access and to put an end to discrimination and segregation.

The National Disabled Drivers' Association went through a transition period of name change to become Mobilise and eventually Disabled Motoring UK.  The local Disabled Drivers' Association(NI) retained the original name and although affiliated to Disabled Motoring UK (DMUK) still work locally for our members.   We receive no funding whatsoever from DMUK from the membership fee which is paid nationally and depend totally on the generosity of our local membership for our survival.

Mobility is a human right for all, and the Northern Ireland Group of the Disabled Drivers’ Association continue to fight for this right.
